The department of Arequipa features a varied relief. It begins in the coastal desert and it ascends to the heights of the Andes. Knowned as the White city for its pretty white walls made of ashlar, a volcanic stone, Arequipa lies at the feets of two huge volcanos: Chachani and Misti and the snow peak Mount Pichu Pichu. The center of the town was declared part of the humanity’s patrimonial and cultural heritage by the UNESCO in 2000. You can also observe some baroque-styled colonial churches and houses like the Santa Catalina monastery. It looks like a small spanish city with its stone streets and its beautiful courtyards and plazas. On the countryside, Sabandia, Tiabaya and Tingo are must see places and the Arequipa gastronomy is also a good complement to your visit.

THE COLCA CANYON Colca’s canyon is located 3 hours and 45 minutes north of Arequipa. It is a wide valley counting on numerous terraces from pre-Columbian times. Its depth reaches 3 140 meters. A bus trip will lead us up to 4 800 meters of altitude from you will have a tremendous view over the whole valley. And of course, the Colca canyon is recognized to be a privileged area to observe the great Andean Condor.

The Misti volcano is the main volcano of Arequipa. It is situated in the National reserve of Salina and Aguada Blanca. On two days trek we will be able to get to the top of the Misti and observe its crater.
This is a quick visit of the main attractions of Arequipa, visiting the convent of Santa Catalina, the cathedral, as well as the Colca canyon.
