The Carnival of Oruro is unique in the world for its cultural and religious meaning. It is inspired by the Virgen de la Candelaria o del Socavon who, year after year creates one of the greatest events of cultural expression in Latin America. The Carnival of Oruro is one of the main festivisites in Bolivia, it was declared Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible heritage of the Humanity by the UNESCO in 2001, recognizing its religious and cultural value. This carnival begins on the Saturday before the Ash Wednesday and lasts 10 days.
